Modeling again

I recently wanted to get better at modeling and so to get myself to do it, I have gotten a bunch of things set up. I downloaded a bunch of swords, lance, maces, staffs, bows, shields and various weapons to model from other games and add my own influences into them. Here's a shot from what I've been doing these past 3 days on my down time.

Lance, Knife, Sword, Zweihander, Book
They are all UVd super nicely too, but since I super suck at art, I didn't paint them...might not even do it. Who knows, maybe I'll give it a go and give up.

SNHU Finals

So this semester I've been kinda stagnant with posts. That's because I spent so much time learning new things that I literally didn't start producing good things until finals started rolling around and we were given the chance to prove what we learned (or that we actually did learn something). So I have 2 pretty big projects. My environment final and my character final. I'm doing a cathedral/gothic mix church...and yes! PICTURES

For this scene here, I used 3ds Max to create 18 meshes. I made 3 unique 2048 diffuse textures that are share among multiple of the meshes to create a unique feel. Then I made 3 normal maps and 3 specular maps and compiled them in UDK (as you could probably tell by the generic skydome and floor texture).

and finally, my character final....still WIP...

Modeled in 3ds max, weighted and rigged in Maya (yes, he is actually animated!). I also used Mudbox to paint this guy. This character has a 2048 diffuse and a normal map (just for funsies)

SNHU final [WIP]

I haven't updated any posts in quite a while. I've been working hard on our game Bacon Man and building my portfolio in school. Things tend to get tough and I can't show much more than just my school work, so here's my WIP final for my advanced character creation class at SNHU.

Bacon Man: An Adventure

Yesterday, Skymap Games and our upcoming project were featured on NHPR in an article about the New Hampshire game industry. We are so excited to finally announce the details of that project.

Bacon Man: An Adventure is a 2/3D platforming beat-em-up RPG. In this rage infused adventure, you take control of Bacon Man, the rightful heir to the Meat Throne. As the Food Group Leaders plot against you, gather friends, and bring forth a revolution unlike any other! Play as up to 4 different characters, each with their own unique abilities and story. Jump, attack, level up, equip, die, and die again. Bacon Man: An Adventure will put you in a state of permanent animosity. We are developing Bacon Man using Epic Games’ Unreal Development Kit. It will debut on both Windows and Mac operating systems.

Bacon Man is designed and developed by Skymap Games, an indie game company located in the Greater Boston area, in Massachusetts. We will be releasing development diaries about Bacon Man on our website, http://skymapgames.com. School and Work

For the past 2 weeks Skymap Games has been working on a top secret project! I've been part of that and so I have been extremely busy. On top of that I am forced into busy work from school. It's an unsettling and unfortunate situation, but I just have to deal with it. Skymap will have a lot of updates soon, so check out our site and stick around!

Autodesk Maya: Rigging

So for the past week I've taken a break from making games, playing games and overall being social. I focused primarily on rigging. I've learned A LOT since I started. I know how to set up constraints, set-up IKs, set controls, restrictions, paint weights, and a proper way to compose a skeleton, etc.

I took a break from rigging my monster and started rigging my friend's because, yes I'm a cheater, his was already weight painted. It's undoubtedly the most important thing in rigging, but I don't really like it. It takes patience and a lot of troubleshooting, which I did not want to do just so that I can cram other techniques into this study session. Here's a shot from his rig setup mid-walk animation.

The model has 2 Foot IKs to act as a goat's leg and keep it from messing up and the hands have full finger controls!
This was my first full on rig and although it has some issues, I learned a lot from it and will now go on to rig MY monster, Tank. Not too soon, I think it's time to rest and play some games at least until the new year hits :D
